Refreshed Toyota Mark X unveiled: Starts from 2,380,000 yen
Japanese auto maker Toyota has revealed the Mark X luxury sedan. The X is offered with two engine options including a 200 HP 4GR-FSE 2.5 liter V6 and new 2GR-FSE 3.5 liter V6 power unit that cranks out 314 HP. The Mark X is available in rear wheel drive and all wheel drive forms (with 2.5 liter engine) and both engines are made available with a 6-speed Super ECT automatic transmission. The smaller engine delivers 13 kilometers with a liter of fuel while the more powerful variant gives you 10.2 kilometers (10-15 test cycle).
Toyota has increased both the width and track by 20 mm and also pushed the shoulder portion of the door trim for the front and rear seats outwards by 25 mm (total for left and right). The distance between the front seats has also been increased by 20 mm.
Highlight features include improved seat comfort, driver’s seat with motorized lumbar support function that shifts the seatback forward or back to improve back comfort during driving, a Plasmacluster Ions technology that helps combat bacteria, HDD navigation system and terrestrial digital TV tuner (for range topping models). There is also an Eco Driving Indicator that lights up to signify economical operation and an Eco Zone Indicator that shows throttle use.
Other features include Sport, Snow and Eco driving modes, Variable Gear Ratio Steering system (with electric power steering) which controls the angle of the front wheels according to vehicle speed, Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management and an Adaptive Variable Suspension for models fitted with the sports package.
Safety wise, the Mark X comes with seven airbags, VSC (Vehicle Stability Control), TRC (Traction Control), Active Headrests, Pre-Crash Brake Assist system, a Pre-Crash Brake system and Pre-Crash Seatbelts. Furthermore, there is an Intelligent AFS (Adaptive Front-lighting System), Radar Cruise Control system equipped with a brake-control function and a Hill-start Assist Control function.
The Mark X is available in two types. First is the Sports type (250G S package, 250G S package Relax Selection, 350S trim levels) while another is a Premium type (Premium, Premium L package). The former has tinting for the headlights and combination taillights, spoilers on front and rear bumpers and trunk lid, black-themed interior and steering-mounted paddle shifters.
The Premium type comes with special plating on the front grille, rocker moldings and its own front bumper design, steering wheel and shift knob ornamentation with wood-grain finish, heated front seats, Power Easy Access System (slides driver’s seat back and tilts steering wheel upward and forward) as well as velour-moquette seat covers that are treated with mite-suppressing agent that also prevents static electricity. The most basic Mark X costs 2,380,000 yen (about S$ 36,486) while the most expensive version goes for 3,800,000 yen (S$58,256). Continue reading to view more images.
Toyota FT-86 Concept: More images revealed!
Toyota recently revealed the highly-anticipated FT-86 Concept that will be shown at the Tokyo Motor Show happening real soon. Many including yours truly are exited about this new Toyota, but the Japanese auto maker only released a few images of the sports concept, up to now that is.
We now have a total of 44 new images of the FT-86 to share with you. However we would still need wait till the concept makes its debut for juicier details such as horsepower figure and more. We do know that it has a Subaru-sourced 2.0 liter boxer in there and that the WRX-maker will also produce its version of the FT-86. Toyota facelifts the 2010 Auris in Japan
Japanese auto maker Toyota has launched the Auris facelift for the Japanese domestic market. According to the auto maker, the Auris has received a new grille, front and rear bumpers as well as restyled head and taillights. Furthermore, it comes with alloy wheels and a new hood design.
Inside, it is treated to new materials and is now offered with new colour options and revised standard equipments. Under the hood, Toyota fitted a new variable timing system for both inlet and exhaust valves onto the 1.8 liter powerplant. It improves fuel economy and increases power output.
The 1.8L version also comes with steering-mounted paddle shifters for the CVT transmission. Prices in Japan hover between 1,622,000 yen for the base 1.5 liter 150X FWD and 2,331,000 yen for the range-topping 1.8 liter S-Package 4WD. Continue reading to view more images.
Toyota FT-86 Concept: To be featured in Playstation 3’s Gran Turismo 5
Toyota has just revealed the FT-86 Concept that will be previewed at the Tokyo Motor Show later this month. The auto maker did not reveal driving videos of the sporty concept, but we have the next best thing there is.
The developers of the upcoming Gran Turismo 5 video game have released a promotional clip, showcasing the concept that will be featured in the game. The 2+2 rear wheel drive FT-86 Concept is motivated by a Subaru-sourced 2.0 liter engine, paired with a 6 speed manual cog box. Continue reading to enjoy the video! Toyota unveils the all electric FT-EV II Concept
Along with the FT-86 Concept, Japanese auto maker Toyota also revealed the all electric FT-EV II Concept ahead of its debut in Tokyo. Toyota did not reveal juicier information, but said that the concept has a driving range of 90 kilometers, with a full charge. It also has a top speed of 100 km/h.
The FT-EV II Concept also features an auto-pilot function. More to be revealed once the concept is unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show, starting late this month. Toyota reveals the FT-86 Concept: Powered by Subaru-sourced 2.0 liter boxer engine
Toyota has revealed the FT-86 Concept that will be presented at this month’s motor show in Tokyo, Japan. The rear wheel drive sports concept is motivated by a Subaru-sourced naturally-aspirated, horizontally opposed 2.0 liter engine that is mounted up front and paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.
The engine in the concept that measures 4,160 mm long, 1,760 mm wide, and 1,260 mm high with a wheelbase of 2,570 mm, should be able to produce up to 200HP. Toyota also revealed that the 2+2 concept was created by Toyota’s France-based Europe Design Development and the auto maker is expected to release more details once it hits the stand in Tokyo. Toyota develops highly scratch-resistant clear coat
Toyota has announced that it has developed a clear-coat paint with self-restoring qualities, that will be first used on the Lexus LS flagship luxury sedan. According to the auto maker, the clear coat is highly resistant to surface scratches usually caused by car wash brushes or fingernails.
Compared to the conventional clear coating, this scratch-resistant version is not easily damaged and can even restore itself even if it is deformed (except for cases in which the self-restoring coat itself is destroyed). Moreover, it requires no special maintenance and it prevents luster degradation caused by surface scratches as well as helps to prolong new-car color and gloss.
The new coat features an ingredient that encourages closer molecular bonding, resulting in a denser structure than conventionally possible. This gives the coat flexibility and elasticity, making it less prone to damage and more resistant to light and acid, and giving it the ability to self-restore after deformation.
2010 Toyota 4Runner officially revealed: High-res images!
Toyota has officially revealed the 2010 4Runner truck-based SUV that features a body-on-frame construction. It is also offered in three trim levels including the base SR5, a more luxurious Limited and an off-road friendly Trail version.
Power is provided either by a 157HP (with 178 lb-ft of torque) 2.7 liter 4-cylinder that is mated to a 4-speed automatic or a 270HP (with 278 lb-ft of torque) 4.0 liter V6, paired with a 5 speed ECT-i automatic transmission. The former, that returns 18mpg city/23mpg highway, is only available with the 4×2 configuration on the SR5 trim level while the latter, good for 17mpg city/22mpg highway, is featured on all 4×4 models.
Apart from a part time 4×4 setup, models like the Trail version comes with a full-time multi mode 4×4 with a locking center differential. The Multi-Terrain Select system in the Trail version enables the driver to choose between four different settings, while the Crawl Control (CRAWL) feature, which allows the 4Runner to creep slowly, comes with five different speed settings. “Superman” television commercial for the Toyota Prius
Toyota has released a new Japanese television commercial for the Toyota Prius.. The 30 second-spot is centered around the Prius’ hybrid capability, and “Superman” is summoned for the job! The latest generation 5-seater Toyota Prius features a 1.8 liter 4-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine with VVT-i which delivers combined horsepower of 135HP when combined with the hybrid system. Torque figures are rated at 142Nm for the combustion engine and 208Nm for the electric motor. To learn more about the Toyota Prius, please click here. Frankfurt 2009: Toyota Auris HSD Full Hybrid Concept
Japanese auto maker Toyota has officially unveiled the Auris HSD Full Hybrid Concept at the motor event in Frankfurt. The Auris HSD (which stands for Hybrid Synergy Drive) features a 97HP 1.8 liter petrol that is linked to an electric motor. The concept is also able to run solely on electric power for up to 2 kilometers at speeds of up to 31 mph, hence the term ‘Full Hybrid”. The drivetrain is mated to a CVT, or a continuously variable transmission.
0 – 100 km/h takes 10 seconds and CO2 emissions output (when not running in EV mode) is figured at sub-100 grams per kilometer. Compared to the conventional Auris, the hybrid concept sits 20 mm closer to the ground and is fitted with bespoke 18-inch alloy wheels that are designed to cut air turbulence in the wheel arches and are shod with low rolling resistance tires. Toyota has also added a more efficient rear spoiler.
Inside, the seats and upper dashboard are finished in blue Gaucholino leather with light blue accent stitching, while the centre console and side air vents feature a pearl white finish. It also has alloy pedals, a flat-bottomed steering wheel as well as ambient illumination on the footwells and headlining. 2010 Toyota 4Runner: Leaked images!
A number of images of the upcoming 2010 Toyota 4Runner SUV (also known as the Hilux Surf in Japan) have been leaked onto the Internet, ahead of its official unveiling at the State Fair of Texas that runs from September 25th till October 18th. According to Toyota, the fifth generation 4Runner “offers sure-footed off-road capability and increased comfort with added roominess.” The new 4Runner is also expected to be offered with features like keyless ignition, Bluetooth connectivity as well as GPS.
It should also be treated to a more luxurious interior with high quality materials. Power should be provided by a 2.7 liter 4-cylinder or a range topping 4.0 liter V6. All new 2010 Toyota Land Cruiser officially unveiled: Full Details!
Toyota has officially unveiled the 2010 Land Cruiser SUV that will make its first public appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show. In the UK, the new Land Cruiser will be sold as a 5-door model (7-seater with 3-rows) which is motivated by a revised 171HP (at 3,400 revs) 3.0 liter D-4D diesel, mated to a 5 speed automatic. Other European markets will receive the 3-door model that features a 4.0 liter Dual VVT-i V6 petrol engine (will not be offered in the UK). The above mentioned 3.0 liter diesel is Euro-4 compliant and can crank out 410Nm of torque, achieved between 1,600 and 2,800 revs. The new Land Cruiser will be offered with three trim levels, including LC3, LC4 and LC5.
0 – 100 km/h takes 11.7 seconds while top speed is figured at 109 mph. Fuel consumption is rated at 34.9 miles to the gallon while emissions output is rated at 214 grams per kilometer. Suspension wise, it has a body-on-frame construction, that has improved rigidity (by 11%). The auto maker has also added insulating frame-to-body mounts to absorb engine, drivetrain and road noise, to ultimately improve ride comfort.
It features independent double wishbones up front while the rear is treated to a four-link lateral rod suspension. LC4 and LC5 models are equipped with a new electronic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS), which adjusts the front and rear anti-roll bars for optimised on and off-road performance.
For off-roaders out there, Toyota has added a Multi-terrain Select (for the LC5 model) function. It automatically controls power and braking to optimise performance for different types of off-road surfaces. At the same time, the Multi-terrain Monitor (for LC5 model) feeds real time images from around the vehicle from a network of four cameras to provide the driver with more information about the immediate surroundings. There is also a new Steering Angle Display (also for the LC5 model) that shows the position of the vehicle’s wheels and its predicted path, further helping the driver plot a safe route.
Another feature is the Crawl Control (for the LC5 model), that allows the driver to choose between five different settings to optimise vehicle set-up to tackle different conditions, without having to use the throttle or brake pedals. It will also help the driver free the vehicle, should it become stuck in mud or sand.
Inside, second row seats have a sliding range of 135 mm (legroom extends to more than double that in the outgoing Land Cruiser) and a more flexible 40:20:40 configuration, with reclining seatbacks. The third row (optional for LC3) feature integral headrests and they fold completely flat into the loadspace floor when not required. The footwell floor has been lowered by more than 38 mm to help offer a more comfortable seating position.
It also has a USB adapter, Bluetooth connectivity, a large centre console box that can be fitted with a compact fridge unit, Smart Entry and Start system, triple-zone climate control (for LC4 and LC5 models), multi-information switch on the steering wheel, cameras that provide wide-view front, side and back guide monitors for easier manoeuvring in tight spaces as well as a 14-speaker JBL Synthesis Premium Surround Sound System (again, for LC4 and LC5 models). The system comes with an 11-channel, 605W Digital Signal Processing amplifier, Hard Disc Drive (HDD) along with CD and DVD playability.
Furthermore, the LC3 model comes with, among others, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) with Active Torque Control (A-TRC), Downhill Assist Control (DAC) with Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), seven airbags, including driver’s knee airbag, ABS with EBD and 17-inch alloy wheels, while the LC4 features (adds) Electronically modulated Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS), triple-zone climate control air conditioning, 18-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, electric, heated front seats, rain-sensing wipers, rear parking monitor and more.
The range topping LC5 is fitted with Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS)/Active height control, a sunroof, seat memory package, Crawl Control and a Multi-terrain Monitor. Toyota’s Frankfurt appearance: Auris HSD Full Hybrid Concept, new Prius Plug-in Hybrid Concept, new Land Cruiser and iQ showcars
Japanese-based Toyota has announced that it will arrive in Frankfurt, Germany with at least five cars. First on the list is the world premiere of the Auris HSD Full Hybrid Concept. The concept would represent the first step in the deployment of the Hybrid Synergy Drive (HSD) system across the auto maker’s model range. The full hybrid can run on the combustion engine or on the electric motor alone, apart from a combination of both.
The Prius Plug-in Hybrid Concept features a plug-in capability (unlike the 2009 Toyota Prius), meaning it can operate like a conventional electric car with a short driving range. 150 units of the concept will be leased to customers initially for a field trial in Europe, early next year.
The all-new Land Cruiser will also make its debut in Frankfurt and will go on sale in the fourth quarter of this year. Two iQ show cars will also join the circus. First is the iQ Sports model while the other is the iQ Collection. Both the show cars will give a glimpse of a future ‘iQ World’ and demonstrate the possibility for customers to personalise their cars. Toyota teases the 2010 4Runner / Hilux Surf SUV
Japanese-based Toyota, is about to launch the new 2010 Toyota 4Runner SUV for the American market. The 4Runner SUV is also known as the Hilux Surf in Japan, and is an SUV version of the Toyota Hilux pickup truck. The auto maker released a teaser (pictured above) on its Flickr profile and according to Toyota, the fifth generation 4Runner “offers sure-footed off-road capability and increased comfort with added roominess.”
The new SUV will be launched at the State Fair of Texas that runs from September 25th till October 18th. The outgoing Toyota 4Runner is offered with two engine options including a 4.0-liter DOHC 24-valve EFI VVT-i V6 with 236HP and a 4.7-liter DOHC 32-valve EFI VVT-i V8 with 260HP. Transmission is provided by a 5 speed automatic, and is priced between US$ 28,640 and US$ 35,325. Continue reading to view a larger version of the image.
2010 Toyota Mark X: Leaked images!
What we have here are some leaked images of the upcoming 2010 Toyota Mark X and as previously reported, it is expected to go on sale in the land of rising Sun by October this year. Expected to go against the BMW 325i and the V36 Nissan Skyline 250GT, the new Mark X will feature two engines including a 2.5L 4GR-FSE and a range topping 3.5L 2GR-FSE V6 powerplant.
The former is good for 203PS while the latter can produce 318PS. There will also be a supercharged version of the V6, that will be tuned by Toyota’s Modellista and will make 360PS as well as feature a lowered suspension (by 20 mm), 19-inch alloy wheels and subtle front and rear spoilers. Transmission options will be made up by a 5 speed and a 6 speed automatic.
There will be three trim levels, including the base Standard, Sports and Premium. The images were taken from a pre-release brochure. The 2010 Toyota Mark X should be priced between 2,800,000 and 4,000,000 yen. In my honest opinion, the exterior styling looks good, and I can’t help but to think of the Kia Cerato Forte when I look at the taillights. From the single image, the interior looks a little mundane. Toyota to introduce a more affordable hybrid in 2011
Toyota plans to introduce a new hybrid vehicle in 2011. The new hybrid is expected to be slightly more fuel efficient, compared to the auto maker’s recently launched third generation Prius. To be exact, the new model should be good for 40 kilometers per liter, compared the Prius’s 38 kilometers per liter figure. Little is known about the new hybrid, but we do know that it would based on the Toyota Vitz compact car. Expect it to carry an estimated price tag of 1.5 million yen (cheaper than the Prius), which translates to S$317,000. Toyota is also rumored to roll out a Prius-based coupe by mid 2012.
2010 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado: Leaked brochure!
We have managed to get hold of a leaked brochure that belongs to the 2010 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. The new Land Cruiser Prado is treated to a new front fascia (inspired by the Avensis), new taillights, new bumpers and a reworked tail gate. You can also notice the new dashboard, that is treated to a new instrument panel with a two-gauge design, repositioned air conditioning vents, restyled centre console and more. Toyota adds two more engines into the Avensis line-up in the UK
Toyota has updated the Avensis line-up in the UK with two new engines, from both the diesel and petrol families. The petrol slot is made up by a 1.6 liter Valvematic engine, that is able to produce 132HP. This engine is paired with a 6 speed manual transmission. This engine is available for the T2 and TR models. The Avensis 1.6 liter is able to sprint the sedan to 100 km/h in 10.4 seconds, and the tourer model to the same mark in 10.6 seconds.
The other engine is the 2.2-liter D-CAT turbo diesel powerplant, mated to a 6 speed automatic transmission. This engine is able to crank out 150HP and 340Nm of torque. It can accelerate the sedan to 100 km/h in 9.5 seconds, while in the tourer, it can do so in 9.8 seconds. The above mentioned petrol engine is able to deliver 100 kilometers with 6.5 liters of gasoline, while the diesel unit needs 6.4 liters to do so. The former carries a starting price of £16,485 while the latter starts from £21,515.
Toyota/Subaru 086A’s power output to be reduced

Rumor has it the upcoming Toyota/Subaru 086A sports car will feature a lower horsepower figure than previously expected. Apparently, the makers of the car intend to position the vehicle as a greener sports car. The 086A, which is expected to be showcased at the upcoming motor show in Tokyo (October), would most probably feature a Subaru-sourced 2000cc boxer four, good for about 140HP, instead of 200HP.
However, along with the reduction in power, Toyota and Subaru will reduce the car’s weight, to help maintain its potential power to weight ratio, achieved with a 200HP motor. Instead of its initial younger target audience, the Toyota/Subaru 086A is now repositioned to attract older car enthusiasts, aged between 30 to 50 years old. These are enthusiasts who grew up with the original AE86. Honda’s upcoming NSX replacement is also expected to feature the ‘green’ treatment, with its hybrid drivetrain.
Toyota revises the 2010 FJ Cruiser: Up by 19HP

Toyota has announced that the 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser will hit US dealerships sometime next month. A number of upgrades will be featured, including a minor suspension upgrade to help reduce the turning radius and the addition of a new body colour, Army Green. Most significant of all is the re-tuned 4.0-liter gasoline V6 with VVT-i and roller rocker arms. The new output figure is rated at 258HP (up by 19HP).
Toyota iQ Electric Vehicle to arrive in 2010
Words are being exchanged that Toyota will introduce its iQ-based electric car in 2010. The electric vehicle will feature a unique styling and is rumored to feature four electric motors (one for each corner) paired with a lithium ion battery pack. Driving range is expected to be rated at 150 kilometers over a full charge and it would take about eight hours to fully charge a depleted battery pack.
2nd generation Toyota Prius used as taxis in Scotland
Taxi operator Calder Cabs of Edinburgh and West Lothian has started to use hybrid cars, in specific, the 2nd generation Toyota Prius, as taxis, which is first for Scotland. “We are pleased to be able to respond positively to calls from the Scottish government for business to look at their carbon footprint and find ways to reduce this,” said Colin Paton and Andrew Liddle, directors of Calder Cabs. The second generation Prius delivers 65.7 miles to the gallon (combined) while emitting 104 grams per kilometer.
Toyota Prius-based coupe: More information emerge
More information has emerged regarding Toyota’s upcoming Prius-based coupe. Apparently, the
‘green’ coupe will carry the MR-2 designation, and will feature a 2+2 seating arrangement. The exterior design is expected to be influenced by a very sporty styling, and the interior will carry over design cues used on the latest Prius. With an expected power output of about 136HP, the hybrid coupe should be unveiled by mid 2012, with a 220,000 – 330,000 yen price tag.
Borneo Motors announces the Racing Edition Corolla Altis and Vios
The Formula 1 circus is coming to town on September 27th, and in conjunction with the second event after it made its comeback, local Toyota distributor Borneo Motors, has announced the Racing Edition Corolla Altis and Vios. The Racing Edition Corolla Altis, which can be yours from S$65,988 onwards, features a full sports bodykit and alloy wheels. On the inside, there are also customized leather seats, floor mats and alloy foot pedals.
The same applies to the Racing Edition Vios, which has a starting price of S$51,988. Furthermore, buyers can also stand the chance of winning valuable Grandstand tickets for the night Grand Prix, that are worth S$1,200 each. There are also cash discounts. The promotion was launched yesterday, and will go on till September 9th.
2009 Toyota Wish to be launched in September, price to hover around S$86,000
Toyota, via local dealer Borneo Motors has announced that it will officially launch the latest generation Toyota Wish for the Singaporean market, sometime in September. The distributor also revealed to Asia One that the 2009 Wish will be priced at about S$86,000 for the 2.0 liter model.
The 2.0 liter version, along with the base 1.8 liter engine are now fitted with Valvematic (continuously variable valve-lift and valve-timing mechanism). All models feature the 7-speed Sports Sequential Shiftmatic transmission. To learn more about the 2009 Toyota Wish, please click here.
Toyota to build Auris Hybrids in the UK
Toyota has announced that it will build a hybrid version of the Auris C-segment hatchback in Derbyshire, UK. It would become Toyota’s first European-built full hybrid and production will start by mid 2010. However, the auto maker did not reveal any information regarding the drivetrain, but one possibility is the drivetrain used in the Toyota Prius that is made up by a 1.8 liter four cylinder Atkinson cycle engine, paired with an electric motor.
Previously, sometime in March, Toyota’s chief engineer of the third-generation Toyota Prius, Akihiko Otsuka revealed that the auto maker will produce a smaller hybrid vehicle and looks like that vehicle in question is in fact the Auris. The Toyota Auris was first introduced in 2007 and is now available with the 1.33-litre dual VVT-i engine and Toyota’s Start&Stop technology. A total of 370,000 units have been sold.

More images of the upcoming Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (some call it just the Toyota Prado) have been put onto the Internet, yet again by another Arabic website, called Qatarshares.com. Instead of a black Prado, the site has uploaded three images of a white one, this time with that all important side profile angle as well.

Scion iQ to hit the American market by 2011
Rumor has it, which I think should be pretty accurate, that Toyota will offer the iQ super mini in the US by 2011. Expected to be rebadged as a Scion, the US version of the iQ would be lengthened by 1.5 inches to help meet America’s crash safety standards.
It is also expected to feature a different interior. Powerplant options offered with the European version are expected to be carried over including a 67HP 1.0-liter petrol as well as the new 98HP 1.33 liter dual VVT-i unit. Apparently, there may also be an electric version sometime in the future. Recently, auto tuner Five Axis previewed the Scion iQ Concept at this year’s New York Auto Show. 2010 Toyota Prado / Land Cruiser Prado: More images appear
After showing you a leaked image of the next Toyota Prado / Land Cruiser Prado, we now have two more images depicting, of what apparently, is the front and rear ends of the 2010 Toyota Prado SUV. These images were found in an Arabic Toyota forum called Toyota4arab.
Unfortunately, there are no images of the side profile or the interior. However, the two images are enough to show how in-your-face the Prado is, with a not-too-bad looking front end, although the rear seems a little mundane. Continue reading to view another image.
Toyota Mark X rendering: New model to arrive in October
Words are being exchanged within the motoring fraternity in Japan, that the new Toyota Mark X sedan will be launched in October this year. The new model RWD is expected to be powered by a 2.5L and a 3.5L V6 engine. These engines would be mated to an automatic transmission. The outgoing model is offered with a 211HP 2.5 liter GR V6 or a 253HP 3.0 liter V6.
2010 Toyota Prado: Leaked image
What you see above is a leaked image of the next Toyota Prado SUV, which is also known in the US as the Lexus GX. We have no other information regarding the new SUV at the moment, but we can safely expect it to be launched within months. The 2010 Prado will replace the outgoing one, which has been on the market for the past seven years. It was offered with a number of powerplants including a 159HP 2.7 liter 2TR-FE 4-cylinder, a 236HP 4.0 liter 1GR-FE V6 as well as a 271HP 4.7 liter 2UZ-FE V8.
Hybrid Supra arriving in 2011
Rumor has it that Toyota will revive the Supra in 2011, this time with a hybrid drive system. Apparently, a concept version of the new Supra would be showcased the Tokyo Motor Show, and that the production version is expected to be powered by a Lexus-sourced 2GR-VSE 3.5-liter V6, that would be mated with a Toyota Crown-sourced hybrid drive system.
Compared to the previous Supra which was motivated by a 320HP 2JZ-GTE inline-6 twin turbo engine (US – spec), the replacement model should be able to produce more than 400HP. Pictured above is the FT-HS Concept car, which was previewed back in 2007 by the auto maker. It helped fuel the rumor that a new Supra is on the way.
ASEAN gets the new Toyota Corolla Altis 2.0V with Dual VVT-i with up to 150HP
Japanese-based Toyota has revealed that it has added a sportier Toyota Corolla Altis with a 2.0 liter engine to its Corolla Altis line-up in Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines. The new model, which also features a new mesh grille, is powered by an updated 3ZR-FE powerplant with Dual VVT-i (variable valves for both the intake and exhaust).
Different countries will get different version of the engine, each with different output figures. Indonesia gets the 150HP at 5,600 revs and 208Nm of torque at 4,400 revs version, while a 140HP at 5,600 revs with 189Nm of torque at 4,400 revs version is offered in Thailand and the Philippines.
More changes include the addition of steering mounted paddle shifters and revised gear ratios. The ratios for the 1.8 Altis is set at 2.847, 1.552, and 1.000 for the first three gears and an overdrive of 0.700 with a final drive of 4.237, while the 2.0V gets 3.943, 2.197, 1.413 and finally a fourth gear ratio of 1.020 with no overdrive gear as well as a final drive of 2.923.

Toyota F1 selling off car parts?

Refreshed Toyota Yaris is here!
Borneo Motors, official distributor of Toyota vehicles in Singapore has officially launched the refreshed Toyota Yaris for the local market. With mild upgrades, the new Yaris now features reworked front and rear bumpers, slightly restyled head lights and tail lights, as well as turn indicators that are now positioned on the side mirrors.
The interior is pretty much the same though, with changes only performed on the fabric. Just like before, there are two trim levels available including the LX and Lifestyle. The LX comes with twin airbags, ABS as well as a remote central locking system, while the Lifestyle comes additionally with leather seats, fog lamps, chromed pedals, solar film, gear lever with metal finish and window visors. In fact, it also comes with an iPod Nano!
Under the hood, lies the same powerplant found in the model it replaces. Which means, there is a 1.5 liter Inline 4-cylinder DOHC VVT-i 1NZ-FE engine that is good for 109HP at 6,000 revs and 141Nm of torque at 4,200 revs. The engine is paired to a 4AT Super (ECT) automatic transmission. Toyota Prius Hybrid priced at $21,000 in the U.S: Full Details!
Toyota has announced pricing for its Prius Hybrid green mobile for the U.S market. The third generation Prius Hybrid comes with a more efficient 98HP 1.8 liter Atkinson Cycle powerplant mated to a hybrid drive system that produces 134HP. The new Prius can deliver up to 50 miles to the gallon (4.7 liters per 100 kilometers, EPA MPG estimates) and will hit dealers by May this year. There are five models to choose from, ranging from Prius 1 to Prius 5. The base Prius 1 carries a retail price of $ 21,000, but Toyota has yet to release its standard features as well as its availability date.
With the Prius 2 that costs $22,000, potential buyers will get:
- P195/65 R15 all-season tires with alloy wheels & covers
- Smart Key (driver’s door) and Push Button start
- EV, Eco, and Power modes

Lexus LFA supercar to go into production!
The Lexus-LFA was a concept car revealed at the 2007 Detroit motor show, and at the time Toyota was just gathering customer interest. Well you’ll be glad to hear that interest has been so good that Toyota will be putting the LFA into production reports AutoExpress.
Originally the LFA was introduced as a 500bhp mid-engined V10 engine under 5.0-liters with optimal weight distribution, with a rear-mounted transaxle and rear-mounted radiators and boasted a over 200mph top speed.
Autoexpress have revealed that they will be bringing out a 600bhp V10 which is said to 0 to 60 in under 4 seconds. Also a pop-up wing along with a carbon fibre body will be employed to keep weight down and improve stability.
The rear wheel drive vehicle will feature an F1 like paddleshift gearbox. This will take over from where the NSX left off and will be revealed in full detail at the Tokyo Motor Show.
2009 Toyota Wish now in showrooms across Japan
The 2009 Toyota Wish 7-seater compact MPV is now available in showrooms across Japan. With sales projections of up to 6,000 per month, the new Toyota Wish is offered with two engine options, both mated to Toyota’s Super CVT-i transmission. Both 1.8 liter and 2.0 liter engines are now equipped with “Valvematic”, which is a continuously variable valve-lift and valve-timing mechanism. With six different trim levels available, buyers can choose either a front wheel drive setup or a four wheel drive setup with both engine types.
As standard, all models come with the 7-speed Sports Sequential Shiftmatic feature which enables manual shifts with models like the 1.8S and 2.0Z featuring steering mounted paddle shifts. The 1.8S model also gets the CVT Sport Mode that improves responsiveness of the tranny during acceleration and deceleration.
The top of the line 2.0Z features a Dynamic Sport Mode that increases responsiveness of acceleration and deceleration, and is also designed for sporty driving during cornering through use of traction control systems and electric power steering. However, with this feature, the 7-seater Wish is forced to turn into a 6-seater compact MPV.
Drivers can also select the Eco Drive Mode (with an Eco Driving Indicator that lights up to signify fuel-efficient vehicle operation) to help improve fuel efficiency by adjusting throttle operation, as well as by reducing power sent to the air conditioning system to save energy. In the press release, the auto maker did not reveal engine performance figures, but did point out that the 1.8 liter powerplant with front wheel drive delivers 16.0 kilometers with a liter of fuel, while releasing 145 grams per kilometer in terms of emissions output.
The 2.0 liter with front wheel drive on the other hand delivers 15.2 kilometers per liter with an emissions output of 153 grams per liter. Other standard fitments include a S-VSC system that balances driving power, steering and braking in pursuit of stable driving in different road conditions, SRS airbags and SRS side airbags for the front and SRS curtain shield airbags for all three rows of seats and more.
Other features offered with the 2009 Toyota Wish, among others include, a 10-speaker Panoramic Live Sound audio system, Plasmacluster 3 air-purifying technology, Smart Entry & Start System, a push-button ignition for starting and stopping the engine and an Intelligent Parking Assist system that uses ultrasonic sensors to detect an empty parking space. The system then helps the driver when parallel parking or when backing into the parking space by informing the driver when to turn the steering wheel and where to start backing up. Smaller Hybrid vehicle planned for Toyota
Toyota plans to unleash a smaller version of the Toyota Prius to further compete with the cheaper Honda Insight that is being sold a few thousand dollars cheaper. Competition will be in the form of a smaller platform based on the Toyota Yaris that will feature the same drive system as the Prius.
Honda has been raking it recently in the Hybrid market with the release of the Insight and future plans of a smaller Honda Fit/Jazz sized Hybrid are also in the work as reported by Automotive News.
“We are developing a low-priced hybrid vehicle like Honda’s Insight” said Akihiko Otsuka, chief engineer of the third-generation Toyota Prius. He went on to say “We are going to compete by expanding our hybrid-vehicle line up to smaller hybrids, in the class of the Vitz [sold in Japan] and Yaris.”
He did not say when the hybrids will be seen by the public but according to Nikkei Newspaper, it could be as early as 2011.
Production version of the Lexus LF-A and new Toyota-Subaru coupe to be unveiled in Tokyo?
Rumor has it that Toyota will unveil the production version of the Lexus LF-A Concept, which was supposed to be previewed in Frankfurt, at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show. The LF-A, which was even rumored to be canceled a while back, is expected to be powered by a V10 engine that is good for 600HP.
Another issue which is being stirred in the rumor pot is a new coupe developed by Toyota and Subaru. Nicknamed as Toyobaru, the coupe is expected to feature Subaru Impreza’s platform and is also expected to be powered by Subaru’s flat four engine fitted with a Toyota-developed head. The rear wheel drive coupe should be able to kick out 220HP, while returning decent miles to the gallon. Looks like we have to wait for the Tokyo Motor Show which starts on October 23rd later this year.

New MR2 in the pipeline?
Toyota executive vice president Masatami Takimoto has confirmed that a new sports car that will feature a hybrid power train is in the pipeline and will take off where the MR2 ended according to sources from AutoExpress(yet again). The previous MR2 ended its production in 2007 and was much loved by enthusiasts.
The new model will be marketed as a performance coupe with a rear-wheel chassis that uses a redeveloped Prius hybrid drivetrain for high performance. Thus with hybrid engine in the trunk you can expect CO2 emmisions of 100g/km while returning 60miles per every gallon.
Mr Takimoto goes on to say “We have set a tough price point (expected to be around £20,000), as it will be easier to sell if it is affordable. It has to be fun to drive, too, which means the hybrid set-up must be different to the Prius’s, with greater responsiveness.”
0 to 60 figures could be anything, but Autoexpress reckons it could reach it in 7 seconds. Realistic competition for this new hybrid MR2 will be the likes of the Honda CRZ.
Toyota to produce iQ Roadster?
Motor Magazine, a Japanese-based publication fueled speculation that Toyota is working on an iQ Roadster, and that a concept version will be previewed at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show which will initiate on October 23rd this year. The magazine also released a speculative rendering which features a set of roll over bars, and an exterior design based on the Daihatsu Copen.
If the iQ Roadster goes into production, expect power plants to be carried over from the outgoing iQ hatch, including a 1.0 liter and a 1.33 liter from the petrol family and a 1.4 liter from the diesel family. The Toyota iQ also recently received an Euro NCAP 5-star rating.
New Toyota iQ with 1.33 liter dual VVT-i engine to make Geneva debut
Japanese auto maker; Toyota has announced that it will present the new Toyota iQ featuring a 1.33 liter engine at the Geneva Motor Show. The 1.33 liter power plant is able to produce 99HP, which is an increase of 32HP over the outgoing 1.0 liter engine.
Instead of a 5 speed manual, the new engine which features a dual VVT-i system is coupled with a 6 speed manual as standard, while there is also an option to upgrade to Toyota’s Multidrive CVT transmission. With the 6 speed manual, it can deliver 58.9 miles to the gallon while with the CVT, fuel consumption figure is rated at 55.4 miles to the gallon. Both engine/transmission combinations produce 113 grams and 120 grams of emissions respectively, per kilometer.
The new power also features Toyota’s Optimal Drive technology as well as an engine Stop & Start system to further enhance fuel efficiency. The new 1.33 Toyota iQ will be available in European showrooms by June this year. The popular city car also recently received a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating.

The new Toyota iQ is one of the most talked about city runners in the automotive world, thus its only fair that it has achieved yet another thing to brag about.
It has received a 5-star Euro NCAP rating, the highest safety rating that could possibly be given to a car, obviously till they make a car that doesn’t flinch when crashing into a brick wall. Toyota facelifts the Estima for the Japanese market
Toyota has launched a facelift version of the Estima for the Japanese market with most of the exterior rework carried out on the front fascia. The facelift up front is highlighted by newly designed head lights which now point downwards a little, compared to the out going model. The rest of the Estima remains unchanged on the outside.
Now to the engine and transmission options. Two engine options are available including a 2.4 liter inline 4 engine which is good for 170HP at 6,000 revs and 223Nm of torque. This 4 cylinder is mated to a 4 speed automatic transmission. The range topping version is powered by a 3.5 liter V6 power plant which is able to produce 280HP at 6,200 revs as well as 344Nm of torque. This power plant which features a Dual VVT-i system is coupled with a 6 speed automatic.
Toyota has also made available a number of features such as; S-VSC which utilizes the electric power steering to apply appropriate steering torque to help stabilize the car and Hill Assist which prevents the car from rolling back on a gradient by automatically applying the brakes when the car moves from a stop.
More features include; a Lane-Keep Assist (LKA) system which detects lane markers on the road and takes control of the electric power steering to help keep the car on its course as well as an Adaptive Front-Lighting system which swivels the low beam head lights according to steering movements to help light up the upcoming road around a corner.

The next Toyota Wish to get a Valvematic engine and a CVT transmission!
A leaked brochure reveal that the new Toyota Wish, although expected to share the same platform with the out going one, will enjoy a new range of Dual VVT-i and Valvematic engines and a Super CVT-i transmission. The range topping 158HP 2.0 liter with 196Nm of torque will feature the Valvematic variable valve lift system while the 1.8 liter variant will be able to produce 144HP and 176Nm of torque.
Apart from the obvious design changes, the Wish, at least in Japan, will be offered in four different models including the 2.0Z, the 2.0G, the 1.8S and the 1.8X, and these four models will also be differentiated with slightly different exterior looks such as different levels of wheel arches which result to different widths. The information given in the leaked brochure is in regards to the Japanese market Wish, and there “may” be some omissions for our local version.

Toyota Fortuner gets a facelift for the Singapore market!
Japanese auto maker via its local distributor Borneo Motors has launched a facelift version of the Toyota Fortuner SUV for the local market. The new Fortuner features mild upgrades here and there, but most aesthetic and comfort wise. The front grille is slightly refreshed while the front head lights and tail lamps are mildly reworked. Toyota has also added electric retractable door mirrors.
The rest of the upgrades are performed in the interior with the additions of a six way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, wood trim instead of powder coated silver and a front passenger visor that includes a ticket slot and a lidded mirror.
The 7 seater SUV features the same power plant and transmission as the previous model, which means a 2.7 liter DOHC 4 cylinder with VVT-i mated to a 4 speed automatic. Horsepower is rated at 160HP while torque is figured at 241Nm. The Fortuner features a full time 2WD with double wishbones up front and 4 link with lateral rod at the back.
The new Toyota Fortuner carries a price tag of S$ 79,488 inclusive of COE. Recently, Borneo Motors also unveiled the facelift version of the Toyota RAV 4 long wheelbase.

General Motors loses its title of world’s largest automaker to Toyota!
News broke yesterday that General Motors has lost its worldwide lead in terms of vehicle sales in 2008 to Japanese auto maker Toyota with 8.36 million vehicles sold, just a stone’s throw away from Toyota which sold 8.97 million vehicles. This result ends a 77 winning streak of the American car maker.
General Motors had a rough time last year with substantial sales drop, and dire financial problems which led the owner of several auto brands to seek financial assistance from the U.S Government. It was also recently revealed that it may let go of Saab. Lets just hope that 2009 will be a good year for GM, which has failed to post a profit since 2004.
The new 3rd generation Toyota Prius hybrid vehicle – all you need to know!
Japanese based vehicle manufacture; Toyota took the opportunity and launched the latest generation Toyota Prius hybrid vehicle at the Detroit Motor Show. The Toyota Prius hybrid vehicle was first revealed to the world slightly more than a decade ago in 1997, taking the title as the world’s first production hybrid vehicle. Now in its third generation form, the new Prius is able to deliver 50 miles to the gallon using a combination of systems including Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive System.

New Toyota RAV 4 Facelift for Singapore roads!
Local Toyota distributors; Borneo Motors (S) Pte Ltd has launched a facelifted version of Toyota RAV 4 SUV (long wheelbase) for local consumption. Improvements made on the exterior design of the SUV includes a slightly redesigned front bumper, radiator grille, head lights and fog lamps up front as well as a redesigned rear bumper and tail lights at the back. The front turn indicators were also relocated to the side mirrors, away from the front fenders.

Solar Powered Toyota?
Rumor has it that Toyota is planning to develop a solar powered vehicle to further complement the company’s environment-friendly range of vehicles such as the Toyota Prius Hybrid. Apparently sources say that the Japanese auto maker plans to fit solar cells on the roof of a new electric car.
These cells can help charge the batteries on board, and the batteries can be further re-charged at home, with roofs equipped with solar panels. Panasonic; Toyota’s partner in developing hybrid batteries is expected to take over Sanyo Electric in 2010 and this move can further facilitate Toyota’s plans to build such a vehicle since Sanyo has years of experience in the solar power industry.
This system is pretty much similar to services provided by US based Solar Electric Vehicles which offers Toyota Prius’ owners the choice of fitting solar cells onto their cars, which can help produce up to 1200 watt of energy a day. Later on, Toyota plans to up its game by producing a vehicle that can be 100% powered by its own solar cells, instead of having the need to re-charge at home.
However it will be years before we can see such a vehicle on the roads. Toyota has been preaching about green technology and in fact has equipped solar panels equaling the size of 60 tennis courts at its Tsutsumi plant in Japan to help produce some of its own energy – enough to power 500 homes!
Daihatsu Sirion’s New MPV Big Brother – Toyota Passo Sette / Daihatsu Boon Luminas!
Toyota recently launched the Toyota Passo Sette 7-seater compact MPV in Japan. To help you with a better understanding, the Toyoto Passo is basically a Daihatsu Sirion in Singapore, also known as the Perodua Myvi in Malaysia. So, whats a Passo Sette then? Well, in Italian, Sette means ‘7′, which in this case means, a 7-seater compact MPV. In Japan, the Passo Sette with a Daihatsu badge is called the Daihatsu Boon Luminas which gives meaning to the word ‘roomy’.

Toyota to unveil Electric Car Concept at Detroit next month!
Japanese based auto manufacturer; Toyota is set to unveil an electric vehicle concept at the upcoming 2009 North American International Auto Show, fondly known as the Detroit Auto Show in mid January. Another forecast slash for Toyota?
In November, top Japanese auto manufacturer Toyota reported a 68% decline in net profit forecast from same time last year (550 billion Yen from earlier projection of 1.25 trillion Yen) and has also set operating profit forecast to 600 billion Yen (earlier estimate was 1,600 billion Yen). The significant drop in the forecasts are obviously due to the uncertain times in the world economy.
To make things even worse for Toyota, it is expected that the auto manufacturer will further slash forecasts at a conference of Monday and rumors are circulating that the Japanese auto manufacturer may suffer its first ever operating loss.
In a separate but somehow related issue; what will happen to Toyota’s involvement in Formula 1? Honda had its doors the pit lane closed but will its rival do the same? Toyota has been in F1 for years now and at a point, it was the richest or most financed F1 team.
