Hyundai’s take on the luxury sedan segment – The Equus!

As reported earlier, Hyundai has plans to up a notch its model line up by offering a flagship luxury sedan to take on German’s finest including the BMW 7 Series as well as the Mercedes S Class. Thanks to TheCarBlogger, we now have images taken from a leaked official brochure. Designated as the Equus, it is 5,160 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width and 1,495 mm in height which is 7 inches longer, 1.5 inches wider and 4.5 inches longer in terms of its wheelbase compared to the Hyundai Genesis, which is a midsize premium sedan rivaling the 5 Series and E-Class.

According to the leaked information, the Equus which is expected to go on sale sometime this year in South Korea will feature a 3.8 liter V6 and a 4.6 liter V8 at first, and that Hyundai may offer a range topping 5.0 liter V8 which should be capable of 420HP, fitted in a long wheelbase variant.

However there is no word regarding the Equus’ destined markets but in South Korea, the base price model carries a price tag of 130,000,000 won which translates into U.S $ 93, 471. However, news are circulating that the Equus may venture into the United States under the name Prestige.

Other key features the Equus has, include; a second generation Vehicle Stability Management System (VSM2), a Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) and a Pre-Safety Seatbelt System. Looking at the images, it looks very bright for the Equus, although it does seem to feature hints of an S-Class in terms of its design. Looking forward to have a look at the interior.

Hyundai to present future Tucson in Geneva – The HED6 SUV Concept

Korean auto maker Hyundai will join the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in neutral-land Switzerland with the HED6 Concept which is rumored to replace the Hyundai Tuscon SUV, which will then take on rivals such as the Toyota RAV4. I must say, Korean cars are getting better and better, especially in terms of design. With cars and concepts such as the Kia Cerato Forte, Kia Soul and Soul’ster concept, Korean auto makers are definitely pointing the right direction. I just can’t wait to test them out and bring you my findings.

Anyway back to the HED6. According the Hyundai, the concept features LED daytime running lights and 21 inch mirror polished alloys. Finished in Ice Blue with an advanced pigment effect, the concept is powered by a 175HP 1.6 liter GDi turbo diesel which is production ready and may be offered with other Hyundai and Kia production vehicles.

Hyundai’s S-Class / 7-Series Contender coming up?

Hyundai is apparently working on to produce its very own flagship luxury car which is set to take on German’s best; Stuttgart’s S-Class and Bavaria’s 7-Series. The image you see above is an official sketch of the luxury car which is expected to be called the Hyundai Equus with an internal code name of Hyundai VI.

Looking at the sketch, I can’t help but notice certain design elements such as the headlights (most likely to be LED) which are similar to the current Mercedes S-Class. The flowing lines on the sides are pretty much Hyundai’s typical design cues since you can also see them on the new Hyundai Elantra.

Currently Hyundai has D-segment vehicle in the form of the Hyundai Genesis which rivals against the BMW 5-Series and Mercedes E-Class.

Hyundai & Kia in trouble too!

Hyundai and its affiliate Kia has declared a state of emergency management which includes a reduction in working hours and a salary freeze for its top managers. This is after its sales dropped to some 4.2 million vehicles from an earlier estimation of 4.8 million.

The group will also produce different models on shared assembly lines. Personnel promotions will also be reduced. The last time Hyundai performed such drastic cutbacks was in 1997 during the Asian financial crisis.
