Mitsubishi’s PX-MiEV Plug-In Hybrid Concept revealed

Japanese auto maker Mitsubishi has revealed a brand new concept called the PX-MiEV, which is a plug-in hybrid concept. The drivetrain system features a 116HP 1.6 liter DOHC MIVEC gasoline engine (with 125Nm of torque) that is linked to two electric motors (one for each axle, and both output 82HP and 200Nm of torque). As the name suggests, you can also recharge the battery pack, via a 100-volt or a 200-volt domestic supply or a high-power quick-charging station. The system also incorporates a Wireless Charging Program feature that allows the owner to start charging the battery or start the air conditioner at a preset time even when away from the vehicle.

It can also run on EV mode at low to middle vehicle speeds. In EV mode, only the front motor is used. When the vehicle detects that it is in low surface friction situations, it will turn on the rear electric motor, turning it into an all wheel drive vehicle. The rear motor will also turn on if the sensors detect any front wheel slip. Once power is depleted, the car will run on the combustion engine, which will help recharge the battery pack. The concept is also fitted with brake energy regeneration. The rear motor will also be activated in this mode, depending on driving conditions.

Other features include an electronically-controlled air suspension (Auto, High and Low modes), a camera mounted facing the driver that monitors eye movements to determine their level of alertness (Driving Monitor System, and will issue audible, visual, vibrational warnings and will also emit a distinctive fragrance to alert the drive, if a low level of alertness is detected) and an S-AWC (Super All Wheel Control) which is configured around an E-4WD (Electronically-powered four-wheel drive) system that controls front and rear motor output to deliver the optimum front/rear drive torque split.

There is also an E-AYC (Electric-powered Active Yaw Control), which controls left/right torque split at the rear wheels and the degree of deceleration energy recovery. The concept will be presented at the Tokyo Motor Show, meanwhile, continue reading to view an image gallery.

Tuk Tuk USA approved by the EPO and DOT

News for US residents will be the announcement that the Tuk Tuk which is a common mode of transportation in countries like India, Thailand and Vietnam has been approved by both the Department of Transportation and the Environmental Protection Agency.

They are widely used as taxis as they will be able to weave through traffic without the slightest bit of hesitation, plus it gets you there on time as compared to its 4-wheeled counterpart. On my journey’s to India, I was first a bit hesitant about getting into such a fragile structure on 3-wheels, but because the drivers are quite experienced, you actually enjoy being weaved through heavy traffic, so much so that I used the rickshaw as my main mode of transport in my travels.

The models available will be the standard 3-seater, 6-seater, 12-seater, Dump Truck, garbage truck, and a Van to name a few. There is also an option to build your very own Tuk Tuk as an L5 driveaway and prices for that start at US$ 9650.00. All engines will be provided by Mitsubishi and are 650cc watercooled 4 stroke engines, that feature a four speed transmission and reverse. The Tuk Tuk is a good runabout solution which has excellent fuel efficiency that comes in about 55 miles per gallon.

Top 5 cars that look good in the snow

Uk Snow

Arctic weather has arrived in the UK and is causing chaos and pandemonium for its residents. It has been reported that schools, trains, and busses had to stop services due the severity of the weather. People from regions such as North America and Russia might think that the Brits were a bit over excessive with their warnings, after all minimum temperatures recorded were only minus 10 ° C, nothing compared to parts of Russia or Canada where this is almost a daily occurrence.

The problem obviously stems from the earth’s eco-logical system which is changing, that causes the weather to become increasingly unpredictable. Thus freak occurrences such as this, crops up every few years without warning.

Nevertheless the main issue for everyday folk like us is travel, most importantly the type of car that will be suitable in these conditions. Modern cars with traction control and on board computer systems already alleviate this problem, but do you look good in them?
